where it has your name your address and your phone number so something like a yelp listing okay a yellow pages they're considered citations they're very important for local seo because they help boost your rankings very very very critical for anything local okay they are important for more so national businesses however that's a bit of a different style if you are local if you're an electrician it's very very important to utilize said citations now what we're going to cover today is i'm going to show you the freeway the paid way of finding out what citations your competitor has what citations to build how to go about it what you do what search operators you use everything so you're going to be able to walk away from this understanding how to go away build citations and do it all okay first thing we want to cover is when it comes to citations check out your competitors so what we're going to be looking at today is we're going to be looking at electrician in miami okay so let's just say you've started an electrical company in miami and it's fresh you don't know what to do you're just starting out what we're going to do is we're going to utilize the top competitor see what they're doing what they have on their site and then we're going to walk away and and utilize that information okay so when it comes to building citations i would suggest starting here personally which is the moz uh the moz category citations so citations by category this is where if you have any type of business as you can see here's a list of all of these different categories it just explains briefly that these are locations where you should place your citations so i clicked electricians and i'll basically tell you that yellow pages service magic yelp super pages manta all of these this is where you should be building your citations begin with here okay trust moz begin with you it's a great source then after that what you can do you have a couple of options of auditing so one way you can do it is utilizing something like bright local that's what we have in my agency that's what we use all the time i think it's awesome super simple it's focused specifically around local stuff so that's why we use it just comes it's a full package now you have two options they do have a local listing but it basically tells you are you here anyway so it's kind of pointless if you go out there and create those citations you don't really need to run it in here you can pay for it guys and you can then go away and get the more uh informative information like i said that's what we do at my agency it saves on time but i'm going to show you a couple of ways one of the ways that you can do it is you can go over to semrush so grab the domain throw the domain into here and what we can do is we can start to look at the backlinks.
but to be completely honest this is quite time consuming so you do need to put a fair bit of effort into this so you can come in you can have a look at the backlinks and see what's going on so this is where you can start to look at anchors as well so you could utilize the anchor information so the anchor text because you can start to fill uh filter out everything that's irrelevant so why some light bulbs like that would not be a citation that would be a backlink however as you start to see their visit website websites websites more websites as you can see all of this information here open link these could be citations you would need to check it out further to see what they're pointing towards okay but another way you can do it is utilizing search operators this is the easy free method and let me show you exactly how we go about that so open up tab over here this is going to be the website that we go after so i'm going to grab their website paste that in now what you do is you place a minus site some cone get rid of all of this okay and then let's place perhaps their name so they're miami electric wizards wizard or wizards all right and you hit enter now what this search operator does is it filters out their domain for their name so as you can see here right away we have the better
business bureau okay bbb we have yelp uh we have mapquest we have angie we have research giant we have networks instagram that would be considered a citation as well okay some local build zoom manta as you can see we're starting to figure out what exactly electrical wizards has so this is how you can go away and go okay so they have one from yelp they have the bbb they have all of this they have manta okay you already should have built these in a line with the moz category but that's how you can check what you want to do is you want to gather all of this information create a little spreadsheet that has all of this okay you want to be saying okay yeah i need to go out and build that i need to go out and do this when it comes to building the citations there are several ways that you can go about it if money is on the cheaper side and if you're doing your audit like this it probably is guys then what you can do is just build them manually go and create the bbb profile go and create the yelp profile go and create the manta profile it will happen it'll just take you a little a little while it's quite quick but it's it's not going to take forever the other way that you can do it is with automation so there's a couple of tools out there like gsa that can do it and you also have another tool which is again bright local so you can submit the citations into there you can say hey i want to build all of these citations for this business and just basically select all of the ones that you want built you can literally like i said create a list then put all of that into bright local and they will build it for you i think it's i can't remember the pricing i think it's around about a dollar a citation now guys let's just check it out but like i said if if money is tight for you and you're more than happy to spend the saturday just going through and building it for your business then that's what uh what can be done but when it comes to citations yeah they're not saying what exactly their citations are going to be okay i think it's around about a dollar guys um for per citation so if you need 50 citations it's going to cost you 50 with bright local and that's pretty much the same with the other ones like white spark and and all of that but white spark is slightly more expensive if you do want some citations built we build citations at 75 cents so you can always hit us up but we do have a minimum order of 100 so it is important to consider that as well but that's how you would go about building them okay it's very important that you match what your competitor is doing and if not a little bit more not necessarily a lot more so you don't want to approach it where if your competitor has let's just say 100 citations you go out and build 200. if you build 200 citations you're probably better off spending once you get to 102 you're better off spending that time to acquire the additional 98 on something like backlinks or even content creation okay post the new google business profile there's better time spent with certain efforts okay so it's not like more citations will immediately translate to more rankings that is not how it works follow what your competitor is doing your number one competitor is doing and number two check out number two as well and see what's going on because they could be slightly varied and then the final thing i would like to say about citations and citation building for local seo is you want to consider a couple of things so you always want to make sure that your nap is spot on so you don't have let's say osbourne digital marketing you don't have osborne digital marketing and then i run away on a different thing like a yelp or a yellow pages and say odm that's where you can get into a little bit of trouble there all needs to align you want to start with around about 100 citations if you are fresh in getting out check what your competitor is doing but 100 is normally the sweet spot you don't necessarily like i was saying before need to go out there and build hundreds upon hundreds of citations top sort of directory sites you'll be able to get in easily no less than 50 i would say but around about 100 unless you're doing a bit of a test and you know what exactly is is required don't do less than 50. now this doesn't happen often but if you do need to build hundreds of citations like three 400 citations this has been a rare thing to happen to us but build it out in waves trickle it through don't go out there and just say 400 citations coming up don't do that just let it happen slowly okay so 7500 ish let them go through in rounds trickle it through because what can happen is google will just stop indexing things for you and you don't want that every single citation index it's more authority that gives your website it gives your google listing all of that will help and make sure one final tip i would have for citations is try and spin the content that you're utilizing in the description the reason for that is it's more likely to be picked up if google sees that the description is exactly the same and it's on all the major providers like yelp yellow pages apple maps all of that what can happen is google can go ah we've got it on the mains we don't need to put it out on the smaller ones so that's why spinning the information can be a little bit better when you're building them especially manually make sure you change a few things around you know from awesome to great exceptional all of that those types of things are really important to consider
